Rev. Jacob B. Sumbayak

Jesus’ first 120 disciples were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they could all speak in tongues. There are two kinds of tongues: we can speak in languages we’ve never learned before, or speak in languages we don’t understand.

We must be filled with the Holy Spirit. The baptism of the Holy Spirit, speaking in tongues, is not a sign of the Pentecostal denomination—that’s too small. Rather, the fullness of the Holy Spirit is given by God to all who believe in the Lord Jesus.

From the very beginning of the Church, everyone has been filled with the Holy Spirit. Even if some say it was only for the Pentecostals, they are wrong. Because this wasn’t for Pentecostals, throughout the history of the church, the fullness of the Holy Spirit has existed, and it is for all who believe in the Lord Jesus.

The church was formed after ten days of prayer, after being filled with the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues, everyone wondered why they seemed so strange. But everyone was amazed.

Acts 2:14, 16-18 AMP

[14] But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them: “Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, let this be explained to you; listen closely and pay attention to what I have to say.

[16] but this is [the beginning of] what was spoken of through the prophet Joel:

[17] ‘And it shall be in the last days,’ says God, ‘That I will pour out My Spirit upon all mankind; And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, And your young men shall see [divinely prompted] visions, And your old men shall dream [divinely prompted] dreams;

[18] Even on My bond-servants, both men and women, I will in those days pour out My Spirit And they shall prophesy.

 At the beginning, the Church was just like that.  Everyone who believes in Jesus and loves Jesus will have the Holy Spirit descend.

That is the origin of the Church. The Church was founded when 120 of Jesus’ disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit, and after Peter preached, 3,000 people were converted, and they were surely filled with the Holy Spirit as well.

And the Apostles are not the only ones who educate the Church, for the Church is given the power to perform miracles.

The Holy Spirit was given to be a comforter, advocate, intercessor, counselor, strengthener, who teaches me the Word of God.

So when we say I’m lonely, it’s strange. Why is it strange? The Holy Spirit is within me, in the Holy of Holies. How can I be lonely?

It could be that I haven’t been filled with the Holy Spirit, or that I’ve been abandoned by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit cares for me more than anyone, even my wife. How can I say I’m lonely? How can I say no one teaches me when the Holy Spirit is there to teach me and comfort me? How can I say I’m lonely?

It could be that the Holy Spirit isn’t within me, or that the Holy Spirit has left me.

Or am I still sinning even though the Holy Spirit is present? That’s impossible. I might fall, but…  The Holy Spirit will remind me, but it’s impossible to remain sinful for years without understanding the truth. Our faith could be lost.

Who will take us to Heaven if we are raptured? It’s the Holy Spirit, not my husband or wife.

But often my appreciation for this third person of God is so low, and He doesn’t exalt Himself but exalts Jesus, so we don’t consider Him within us.
