Our History

  1. Beginnings (1980 – 1984)
In 1980, while studying economics at a state university in Jakarta, Jacob B. Sumbayak experienced personal salvation and began preaching in Christian fellowships across the city’s campuses. Despite fruitful ministry, he sensed a deeper dimension of spiritual vitality was lacking. Together with a small prayer group—VISI Fellowship—composed largely of fellow students, he sought the baptism in the Holy Spirit. After months of united, earnest prayer, every member of the fellowship was filled with the Holy Spirit in 1984. On 5 December 1984 this fellowship had a vision from the Lord: Wherever you go, you will build the tent of praise.”

  2. Founding of YAVISI (1985)
As the movement spread among students and senior‑high pupils throughout Jakarta, many felt called to world missions. To channel this growing outreach, the Yayasan Visi Injil Sepenuh InternasionalYAVISI (International Full Gospel Vision Foundation)—was incorporated in 1985. Under the chairmanship of Jacob B. Sumbayak, YAVISI became the umbrella for the evangelistic outreach initiatives.
  3. Establishment of GPPI Pondok Daud (1986)
By God’s providence, an opportunity arose in 1986 to plant a local church in Jakarta. Partnering with the national denomination Gereja Pusat Pantekosta Indonesia (GPPI), the fellowship launched GPPI Pondok Daud (“Tabernacle of David”)—a name reflecting its original vision of “a tent of praise.” The inaugural Sunday service was held on 23 March 1986 with approximately 60 worshippers. From the outset the church emphasised discipleship and a lifestyle of fervent praise, adopting the motto: “Growing into a mature, worship‑filled congregation, prepared to be raptured.”

  4. Vision Bible School (SAV) (1987 – present)
To equip believers for ministry, Sekolah Alkitab Visi (Vision Bible School, SAV) was established in October 1987 as a non-degree program operated jointly by YAVISI and GPPI Pondok Daud. The curriculum—integrating classroom teaching, hands-on ministry experience, and small-group mentoring—quickly became the foundation of the church’s discipleship process. Over time, it has been adopted by numerous congregations across denominational lines. Notably, in 2012, a church in Central Jakarta implemented the full 3.5-year program for its entire ministry team. Today, dozens of churches from various synods in multiple cities have taken part in this ministerial training program.
  5. Evangelistic Crusades (1987 – present)
Beginning in 1987, the “Happy Hours Fellowship” youth rallies drew thousands of Jakarta’s young people. Countless attendees accepted Christ, received the Holy Spirit, and committed themselves to end‑time service. Many later became active ministers across the Jakarta and surrounded churches.
  6. Praise and Divine Healing Services—KPPI (1993 – present)
In February 1993 the ministry inaugurated its monthly KPPI (Kebaktian Pujian dan Penyembuhan Ilahi—Praise and Divine Healing Service). Thousands have since testified to salvation and physical healing through these gatherings. From 2005 onward KPPI crusades expanded beyond Jakarta—beginning in Bandung, then to cities spanning the archipelago from Merauke (Papua, February 2006) to Sabang (Aceh, November 2006). By to date the ministry had cooperated with around 2,000 local churches nationwide, and its accompanying Healing Ministry Course (HMC) had equipped more than 38,000 participants for prayer ministry.
  7. Student and Youth Fellowship—PMPPKN (1996 – present)
To consolidate campus and community outreach, PMPPKN (Persekutuan Mahasiswa, Pelajar, dan Pemuda Kristen Nasional – Indonesian Christian Students and Youth Fellowship) was formed in 1996 under YAVISI and GPPI Pondok Daud. Today it maintains a discipling presence in more than 26 cities, working closely with local pastors on city‑wide evangelism.
  1. Marketplace Outreach—Jangkar Iman (2005 – present)
Recognising a hunger among professionals, office workers, and entrepreneurs, we launched Jangkar Iman (Jaringan Pelayanan Karyawan, Aparatur, Profesional, Eksekutif, Pebisnis Seiman) in 2005. The movement soon spread to corporate settings across Indonesia. Its “Miracle Night” meetings—first held in March 2017—regularly draw hundreds of employees who now minister in the power of the Holy Spirit and bring renewed vitality to their home churches.
  1. Prayer Meetings (2020 – present)
During the global pandemic in 2020, we launched a large-scale online ministry initiative. One of its key components was the establishment of online Prayer Meetings, conducted in partnership with our ministry networks both domestically and internationally. These prayer gatherings have continued regularly and are now held in 96 countries. Through these connections, we have not only fostered international discipleship but also actively sent missionaries to our global partners’ countries.
  1. Global Missions (2022 – Present)

Flowing from the call of Jesus Christ to “go and teach all nations,” our heart has always burned for the nations. Beginning in early 2022, teams from GPPI Pondok Daud began traveling abroad to pray, teach, evangelize, and strengthen the Body of Christ around the world. These mission efforts have included revival meetings, leadership training, campus outreach, healing services, intercessory prayer, and church gatherings. To date, our teams have ministered around 30 nations across Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and the Americas—partnering with local believers in the global harvest and carrying the same fire that birthed this movement.

  1. Inter‑Church Prayer and Evangelism Initiatives
  • Pray for Cities (PFC): first convened as “Pray for Jakarta” in March 2012, PFC crusades now take place throughout Indonesia. Collaborating with other local churches as the committee, the events were conducted in many places —in stadiums, public squares, sports halls, and churches—attracting crowds from hundreds to several thousand. To date –May 2025– the ministry has collaborated approximately with more than 6,200 local churches for PFC events in our nationwide.
  • Doa Bagi Bangsa (Pray for the Nation): launched in Jakarta in 2007 and subsequently replicated in other cities, this movement mobilises united prayer in schools, campuses, and civic venues.

Our ministry is completely free of charge and has usually been self-funded. To ensure effective ministry during each crusade event, we offer a series of programs designed to equip and strengthen local church leaders and ministry teams:

  • Servant of God Seminar (Seminar Hamba Tuhan – SHT):
Designed for pastors, evangelists, and active church ministers, this seminar focuses on deepening their personal relationship with the Lord and equipping them to mobilize evangelism across local churches. We have conducted dozens of Servant of God Seminars (SHT) in various cities of Indonesia, and even in some cities across Asia, Middle East, Africa; equipping hundreds of pastors and ministry leaders.
  • Train-the-Trainers (TTT SAV):
A week-long intensive course based on the Vision Bible School (SAV) curriculum, this program is attended by pastors, reverends, evangelists, and ministry teams from churches in the host city or region. To date, we have conducted TTT SAV sessions in multiple cities and islands, equipping numerous leaders for active field ministry.
  • Training for Counsellors (TC):
A practical, short-format session designed to prepare individuals to serve as counsellors during the Pray for Cities (PFC) This initiative has successfully trained thousands of counsellors across the country.

In addition to these core programs, we also offer the Heart of David Seminar (Seminar Hati Daud) and the Intercession Workshop, both intended to foster deeper spiritual maturity and empower participants for ministry within their local churches and across city-wide initiatives.

  1. Crusade Director Program (Continually – present)

Recognizing the hunger among churches across Indonesia for small to large-scale evangelistic outreach, we began offering practical and spiritual support to local churches desiring to host citywide crusades. The Crusade Director Program was developed to serve as a catalytic partnership—mobilizing unity, prayer, and preparation.

Our teams assist in a wide range of areas:

  • Training Counsellors – Equipping volunteers to minister to new believers during altar calls
  • Training Local Pastors – Providing biblical instruction and vision-casting for effective city evangelism
  • Event Planning – Helping with permits, logistics, site layout, and program coordination
  • School and Youth Outreach – Organizing school visits, youth rallies, and community engagement
  • Intercession and Mobilization – Coordinating prayer networks leading up to each crusade

In every city, the heart remains the same: to see Jesus lifted high and the local church empowered to reap a great harvest. We do not replace or change the local church—we come alongside to serve, support, and strengthen their God-given vision for their city.
