Rev. Bernhard J. Sumbayak

The Child Dedication Service was held on January 21, 2024. This service is a special event where parents make promises to raise their children in a way that honors God, declaring their faith and belief in God’s plan for their children. The sacrament involves the symbolic act of dedicating the child to God, expressing the parents’ trust in God’s perfect design for the child’s future.

Rev. Jacob B. Sumbayak shared a message from Deuteronomy 6:7, emphasizing the importance of teaching children about God’s commands in various aspects of life. The verse encourages parents to diligently instruct their children in God’s ways, whether at home, during travel, at bedtime, or upon waking up.

“You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.” (Deuteronomy 6:7 ESV)

The parents who participated in the Child Dedication Service were:

Rev. Michael Judah Sumbayak and Melisa Meigi Suawa, parents of Elleora Jodie Sumbayak.
Rev. Julius Leonard and Ev. Jiuli Tjin, parents of Joshua Immanuel Siagian.
Yulius Yulianto and Hervionita Sihombing, parents of Othniel Christian.

Through this ceremony, these families publicly express their commitment to raising their children in a way that honors God, entrusting their children’s lives to God’s divine plan.  And the church also makes promises to support the parents in their journey of parenting.
