Rev. Jacob B. Sumbayak

Rev. Jacob B. Sumbayak delivered the message from Matthew 15:21-28, a Canaanite woman approached Jesus in the region of Tyre and Sidon and addressed Him as “Lord, Son of David.” She had heard about Jesus through people’s stories or had heard of His miracles and teachings. Her recognition of Jesus as the “Son of David” indicates her belief that He was the long-awaited Messiah, the promised descendant of King David who would bring salvation.

The woman’s plea for Jesus to have mercy on her and heal her daughter which was possessed by a demon. Despite not being an Israelite, she believed that Jesus could deliver her daughter from her affliction. This encounter highlights the inclusiveness of Jesus’ ministry, as He did not confine His mission solely to the people of Israel but was open to helping and interacting with people from different backgrounds and nations.

It is important to note that this passage reflects the woman’s faith and her understanding of Jesus’ identity as the Messiah. It serves as a testament to her persistence, humility, and trust in Jesus’ ability to heal.
